Australian Reading Hour 2021

Sep 13, 2021

Australian Reading Hour on Tuesday 14 September is an annual celebration of reading, literacy and books, and I’m proud to be an Australia Reads Ambassador for 2021.

There are many free events for children and teens to get involved in:

Watch online and read along to The Great Book-Swapping Machine with author Emma Allen and enjoy the beautiful illustrations on the Australian Reading Hour 2021 Facebook page or YouTube channel.

Stories that Matter for Kids, hosted by Oliver Phommavanh, features mini-classes on drawing with Andrew Joyner, writing your own story with Michael Wagner, and reading the stars in our skies with Professor Lisa Harvey-Smith, plus Adrian Beck and Nicole Hayes on books, sport and footy.

Stories that Matter for Teens, hosted by Yumi Stynes, features writers for young adults including Danielle Binks, Sara Hagdhootsi, Will Kostakis, Jeremy Lachlan and Lili Wilkinson chatting with Jenna Guillaume and Tobias Madden. For secondary school students, this event explores career pathways into book publishing and also showcases an extraordinary interactive 360° film based on the life of Peek Wurrung Elder Uncle Rob Lowe and the importance of truth-telling and reconciliation.
