Today is International Children’s Book Day which aims to inspire a love of reading and to celebrate children’s books all around the world. It is also the birthday of Hans Christian Andersen, a famous Danish author who wrote many books including fairy tale classics such as “The Little Mermaid’, “The Ugly Duckling” and “The Emperor’s New Clothes”.
The theme for 2014 is Imagine Nations Through Story, and the sponsoring country this year is Ireland. Siobhán Parkinson, the first Children’s Laureate of Ireland, has written an inspiring letter to the children of the world exploring the theme.
